What we Believe

We believe that the basis of all truth is found in the living God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and in His infallible Word, the Bible.

We believe that the Word of God provides clear instruction, not only for the way of salvation, but also for our everyday life in the world. We believe that all aspects of life ought to be guided by God's perfect will which is revealed to mankind in the Bible. We are to live for God's glory, not our own. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (I Cor. 10:81).

Briefly summarized

Our beliefs can be summarized in five statements:

1. Scripture Alone - The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the only safe rule for faith and conduct. By God's grace, we aim to live without hesitation according to what God tells us in His Word (2 Timothy 3:16).

2. Grace Alone - Man can only be saved from sin and its eternal consequences by the renewing work of the Holy Spirit. This manifestation of God's sovereign goodness to sinners, which excludes all human merit, the Bible calls the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8).

3. Faith Alone - Salvation is not the result of man's own accomplishments but is obtained only through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ - His perfectly holy life and infinitely valuable sacrifice accomplished on the cross of Calvary. By trusting in Christ this way a man becomes righteous before God (Hebrews 4:2).

4. Christ Alone - The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and man. He is the only One by Whom sinful man can be reconciled with his Creator, Whom he offends by his sins. Only Jesus' perfect sacrifice and righteousness make a man acceptable in God's pure and holy eyes (John 14:6).

5. Glory to God Alone - The main purpose of man's existence is to live in a way that brings glory to God. This is why God saves man and why He gives man grace to live holy lives. All honor and glory for the salvation of sinners must be given to God only (Revelation 7:12).

Creeds and Doctrinal Standards help us to more thoroughly explain what the Scripture teaches. In addition to the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasius Creed, we subscribe to the interpretation of Scripture found in the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession of Faith, and the Canons of Dordt. We also greatly respect the Westminster Standards.
